Measurement Principle
The laser thickness gauge is based on the triangulation method, utilizing integrated triangulation sensors to measure the distance from the mounting frame to the surface of the target object. Based on the fixed spacing of the frame, the system calculates the material's thickness.
When the object’s thickness changes, the laser beam emitted from the transmitter reflects off the object and lands at a shifted position on the receiving sensor. The system calculates the thickness variation using geometric analysis and outputs the thickness data in digital form or graphical curves.
During operation, two laser displacement sensors are positioned opposite each other—one above and one below the material—to simultaneously measure the upper and lower surface positions. The material thickness is then calculated using the formula:
h = L – A – B,
where:
· L = fixed distance between the two sensors
· A = distance from upper sensor to top surface
· B = distance from lower sensor to bottom surface
